Back then it was almost impossible to verify some of his stories. Although even then, I did manage to confirm the story of his mother being "Thauma" via a couple of happy sessions sat in the old British Library reading room! So once the internet opened up the fantastic resouces such as the newspapers and film archives, its incredible to find that his recollections were actually all true! Not a fabricated tall-tale, but instead it all really did happen.Essex Voices Pasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07482785802047564347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5728509094770344156.post-17119776719955089062015-01-20T13:30:10.020+00:002015-01-20T13:30:10.020+00:00Thank you. It's good to see that his arrival in May 1933 ties up with all the other documentary evidence I have. The 1931 arrival is an interesting one - this would indicate that it was in this year that he first came to Britain - to see his mother and siblings. But it also ties up with his memoirs and their account of when he showed "Eric the Whale" (a massive oversized embalmed whale mounted on a car) around London Olympia and then on to the Kursaal in 1931.

KateEssex Voices Pasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07482785802047564347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5728509094770344156.post-7190605381470071672015-01-18T10:32:41.360+00:002015-01-18T10:32:41.360+00:00A most interesting and enjoyable story. A quick look at UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 on ancestry.com shows your uncle arriving back in the UK in May 1933. There is also a 1931 arrival. My very quick glance at the indexes did not see any later arrivals. Regards AnneAnne Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17970750528434435027noreply@blogger.com
